Caregiver Support Group
We offer a supportive space for caregivers to share experiences and find emotional support.
The volunteer-led Caregivers Support Group provides a safe, understanding space for those caring for loved ones to connect with others who share the same challenges and need for emotional support.
The group meets monthly at Jackson Memorial Library. For more information, please contact volunteer-leader Suzanne Hoyt (suzanne.hoyt1@gmail.com) or StGCDC Programs Director Britta McCollom (bmccollom@stgeorgecommunity.org).
In 2023, the StGCDC held a series of meetings to gather data with the mission of better understanding the “aging in place” needs of our community. The Caregivers Support Group was one of the programs that came out of that 2023 meeting. The group provides a safe, private space for caregivers to connect with others who understand the challenges and need for emotional support that come with providing around-the-clock care for loved ones.
Over the summer of 2025, volunteers reorganized this initiative adding a facilitator and an ad hoc advisory group. The group meets monthly in the reading room at the Jackson Memorial Library, is open to the public, and continues to support caregivers who are responsible for the health and welfare of another person whether it be due to a disability, chronic illness, frailty, or any other condition that generates dependency.
The group provides a valuable service to our community supporting resident’s ability to stay in their own homes as long as possible, which helps keeps our town vital, active and diverse. It encourages networking and provides participants with needed information to access other programs at the StGCDC such as the Community Cupboard, dental services, fuel assistance, and more.
