Role: Community Cupboard Coordinator
Organization: St. George Community Development Corporation
Where: St. George, ME
Please send a cover letter and resume to Executive Director Mike Felton at mfelton@stgeorgecommunity.org.
Founded in 2017, the St. George Community Development Corporation (StGCDC) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization committed to fostering a thriving and livable community for all St. George residents. We work across sectors and age groups to support an integrated continuum of care, connection, and resilience. The StGCDC focuses on four impact areas: (1) Community Empowerment, (2) Education & Economic Development, (3) Housing, and (4) Health & Wellness.
We are seeking a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented professional to assist in the day-to-day operations of our community food pantry—called the Community Cupboard, oversee The Night Kitchen and related food access programs, and support our social media and outreach efforts.
This is a 40-hour-a-week role based at our offices at 47 Main St. in Tenants Harbor with a salary range of $35,000-$45,000 depending on experience. It is a physically demanding role requiring the candidate to lift, push, pull, bend, squat, twist, and turn.
An overview of key responsibilities is below:
- The Community Cupboard is our largest program, providing high-quality food and hygiene products to around 40-50 households, including over 40 children, each week. The Community Cupboard Coordinator will interact with vendors, partners, volunteers, and clients; oversee and support a large group of committed volunteers; and complete related administrative duties in collaboration with the Programs Director and Executive Director.
- The Night Kitchen program provides heat-and-serve, home-cooked meals prepared by the Coordinator and volunteers. The Coordinator is responsible for developing recipes, securing ingredients, and preparing meals alongside volunteers one evening every other week.
- Communications and outreach are also key facets of the Coordinator’s role. In collaboration with the Programs Director and Executive Director, the Coordinator will prepare the monthly StGCDC newsletter, develop outreach materials, and grow our social media presence through regular posts about our work.
- Volunteer support, engagement, and coordination are also key responsibilities of this position. The work of the StGCDC is only possible because of the commitment of our volunteers. About 15 volunteers gather each Thursday to prepare, pack, serve, and distribute food to clients through the Community Cupboard. Many of these volunteers have been working at the Cupboard for five or more years, demonstrating a caring and commitment that is as necessary to our work as it is inspiring to our community.
